If you wish you can add 1/2 a beaten egg to bind the mixture though you may need to add more black beans and/or hemp protein if the mixture becomes to wet.

You may choose to grill the patties in the oven instead of pan frying. 

Hemp Black Bean Burgers

Power up on plant-based protein burgers!

  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp omeganz™ Olive Oil
  • 3/4 tin (440 g) black beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup new hemisphere™ Hemp Protein
  • 2 tbsp new hemisphere™ Hemp Seed Hulled
  • 1 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper to season

Fillings

  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • lettuce of your choice
  • 2 tbsp garlic hemp aioli
  • 2 cheese slices
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  1. Sauté the onion and garlic in half the omeganz™ Olive Oil for a couple of minutes until transparent. Leave to cool.
  2. Mash the black beans in a large bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients then add the cooked onion and garlic. Combine well using clean hands.
  3. Divide mixture into two portions and shape into patties.
  4. Preheat oven on Grill function. Line oven tray with non-stick baking paper. Grill hamburgers buns and keep warm in the warmer draw of the oven whilst you cook the patties.
  5. Heat the rest of the oil in a large fry pan on a medium-high heat and pan fry patties, cooking approximately 4 minutes each side.
  6. Finish off in the oven (Fan Bake 180°C) for 3-5 minutes if needed.
  7. Build your hamburger with the fillings listed above or those of your own choice.
  8. ENJOY!
